Weekly Photo Challenge: Silhouette

This post is part of the WordPress Weekly Photo Challenge.  The topic this week is “Silhouette”.

When we heard that the full moon on May 5th 2012 was going to be a large, bright “supermoon”, Mr F and I hiked out to Eagle Rock in Topanga State Park.

6:55 pm

As you can see it was a perfect location to watch the moon.

7:21 pm

7:25 pm

These photos of the moon rising over Eagle Rock were all taken with my point-and-shoot camera, without a tripod, plus I didn’t add anything later via a Photoshop technique.

Click here if you’d like to see more of the photos of the moon on my original post.

Great theme! You’ve inspired me to dig up some recent silhouette shots from my trip Down Under.

  2. Wonderful! I can never manage a good moon shot.

What a brilliant idea to photograph the full moon like this for a silhouette photo challenge – well-captured images, Rosie.

  12. Kathy says:

That second shot is the coolest, Rosie! Magic moon night…

    • dearrosie says:

It really was a magic moon night Kathy. As you can see from the photos we weren’t the only ones at the rock, but thankfully there weren’t a lot of people and everyone was respectful and had hiked out to see the moon.

  13. Mariane says:

Oh I like them all – They are wonderful – Thanks for sharing and thank you for visiting my site (Far Away)

  14. Looks beautiful — you are really getting your photography on, girl! And I especially love how motivated you and Mr. F are to see the beautiful world around us!!!

    • dearrosie says:

Though I only have a little point and shoot camera the beautiful photos you’ve taken recently have inspired me to do more of this kind of post. Thank you Betty.

  15. Breathtaking. I know you are pleased with these shots. They are spectacular.

  16. I didn’t know you could climb Eagle Rock! I remember your original post and thinking that you really captured the Supermoon beautifully! I took some photos from my front yard…they didn’t turn out very well! 🙂 You are quite the adventurer, Rosie! 🙂

  17. aFrankAngle says:

I enjoyed the shots … thanks Rosie!

This is very funny and very frustrating. WordPress is not allowing me to leave a comment as the owner of this blog. Though I’ve restarted twice and am being allowed into my dashboard, I’ve had to “moderate”every comment I’ve answered.

  19. Stunning photos, Rosie! Have you had any luck with the feature images yet?

    • dearrosie says:

      Welcome and thank you Kathryn.

Although the second photo looked great in the “preview” perhaps the problem lies with the size of the images… ? I’ll let you know when I work it out. Right now I’m have problems with WP recognizing me as the owner of this blog.

I love your night time silhouette… Gorgeous. 😉

  21. These images are priceless. The moon phenomenon captured in a unforgettable moment. Beautiful!

  22. Robin says:

These are wonderful! I missed the “super moon.” I think it was due to cloudiness which is an ever constant problem here. Sometimes northeast Ohio reminds me of England with its rain and clouds.

    • dearrosie says:

I didn’t realize you get so much rain up there. I’m fortunate to live in a part of the world where it doesn’t rain much, so on the night of the “supermoon” the sky was perfectly clear.

  23. Arindam says:

Beautiful. One among those rare beautiful views nature and its phenomenon offer us. 🙂

I'd be delighted if you left me a comment
