After Lisa at Zeebra Designs & Destinations wrote a post on August 9 2012, about the parade she saw in Ecuador, where hundreds and hundreds of citizens dressed in white walked quietly down the streets “to bring awareness for peace” a few of us decided to wear white on International Peace Day.
We’d love you to join us by wearing white on Friday.

In 1982 the General Assembly of the United Nations declared that September 21 to be the International Day of Peace,
a day to reflect on the unconscionable toll — moral, physical, material — wrought by war.
Did you know that the root causes of many conflicts are directly related to, or fueled by, valuable natural resources, such as diamonds, gold, oil, timber or water?
World leaders will be meeting in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil for this year’s observance of the International day of Peace to discuss this year’s theme i.e. “Sustainable Peace for a Sustainable Future”
Remember all you have to do to show your solidarity is to wear white on Friday.
There will be events such as Interfaith peace ceremonies, peace walks, picnics and tree plantings. Check your local listings.

Yes, a beautiful post! I was unaware of International Peace Day until now. I’ll see if I can find a white top to wear on Friday. Sadly it’s true that many conflicts are over valuable natural resources – what a pity. Surely we can do better!

Too many people think “who cares I don’t live there, it’s not my problem”.
They forget we’re all living on the same little world.
It’s a shame we have to set aside a day to be aware of world peace. It should be every day. I think alot of people are aware of peace, want peace, and out ways to be involved. I hope there’s a good turnout in LA. I haven’t seen any mention of it in New York, the HQ of the United Nations!

Perhaps 99.9% of us want such a world, but unfortunately there are too many greedy people who don’t give a damn about human life. For instance the recent movie on “Blood Diamonds”? After I heard what it was about I couldn’t see it. Did you?
I did see the movie. Hard to watch but well done.
I wish I could believe that anything is going to change, but greed and oil and self-interest rule this world.

Thanks for bringing awareness to the International Peace Day. Despite the fact that I have covered the event many places and many times, I still wasn’t aware of the date. May it be a peaceful day for most people in the world!

Are you going to join us and wear white? I think you’re still in Norway? Is there a dress rule in Scandinavia that you can’t wear white in September?
There is now rule here regarding wearing white any time of the year. So I believe I should join.

If Thích Nhất Hạnh (you spell his name the correct way!) ever comes to your part of the world for a Peace March you should join it. I’ve gone twice. I felt the energy for days afterwards.

Your are an inspiration. A beautiful post that fits perfectly in today’s events. The world is crying for peace, for joy, for hope and happiness. We owe it to our children that in their generation, things will be better. That they too are entitled for a peace of kingdom on Earth. Your thoughts brought tears of joy and hope. Thank you my friend. There are times I am reluctant to share my pain so I would rather share my happy moments and the blessings I received. The world already have so much pain and suffering , and I adding more seems not fair but sometimes I would like others to know as well as relate that I am just as human as anyone else. I have my share of heartaches and everyday is one more step to heal each wound. I hope and pray that my son and his generation will not experience the same fate. That all there is to suffer, we already encountered during our generation. God bless you and your family. I understand that you feel you can only share happy times on your blog, but really there’s nothing wrong with owning up to personal suffering too. You have such an enormous following of readers I’m sure they’d all be there understanding and supporting you. I was astonished how much support and love I received from bloggers – strangers I’ve never met – after my beloved Mother passed away last year.
