A few weeks ago, after my almost 94-year-old Mother fell several times, I knew it was time to visit her. I arrived two days ago.
Yesterday I had lunch with Mom at her retirement home. 60 ladies and 10 men in the dining room, and a traffic jam of “walkers” parked at the door.
“Are you new?” my mother asked a little old lady sitting at a table near the entrance.
“Yes, I’m two weeks old,” she said.
“I thought I hadn’t seen you before. Welcome,” Mom said, and then led us slowly across the room to the table at the window “reserved for Mrs R’s guests”.
Lunch was barley soup, egg salad sandwich, tapioca pudding, many favorite stories from my childhood, and much laughter.
I’m so glad to hear that you’re having good times with your mother (^^).
You are so, SO lucky to still have your mom with you! My mom died 24 years ago, which seems absurd that it could possibly be that long and I could have lived all this time without her. My dad died in 2003 at 91 … and I was so blessed to have all that time with him! My friend Judith is in Florida with her dad who is in hospice and dying. My friend Bevan is back in England with her mom who is dying. It’s that time of life, I guess, but it’s just so hard to say good-bye. So it’s amazing you get to say Hello!
It’s true Betty I am so SO lucky to still have my Mom with me. (My Dad died 22 years ago.)
And one of the reasons for coming now, is to be with her for Mother’s Day 🙂
From my Sweet Gladys…
the sun could never be as warm
the sea could never be as lovely
a bird could never be as majestic
a tree could never be as splendid
fine wine could never taste as wonderful
a vacation could never warrant such splendor
a smile was just an expression until i felt it..
a laugh was just an emotion until i felt it..
a hug was just an action until i felt it..
love was just a word until i felt it..
from my sweet Gladys…
That is very beautiful Mark.
Gladys will be very happy to hear that people are writing poems in her honor!
